The Serendipity Singers
From TSimon.com, "The Serendipity Singers hit the charts briefly in the mid-60's and made their contribution to music through folk, pop and even some show tunes.
The group was formed at the University of Colorado by students Bryan Sennet, Mike Brovsky and Brooks Hatch. They assembled a group that comprised nine members including vocalists Lynne Weintraub, Diane Decker and Tommy Tieman, guitarists John Madden and Jon Arbenz and bass player Bob Young. The group began to perform on college campuses, mostly in the Western United States.
The Serendipity Singers became more noticeable following a performance at the Bitter End in New York's Greenwich Village. They appeared on the scene shortly after groups such as Peter, Paul and Mary and the New Chisty Minstrels had helped to make folk music popular. The Serendipity Singers projected a squeaky clean image. In the Spring of 1964 their song Don't Let The Rain Come Down (Crooked Little Man) was a top ten hit. They appeared on the popular television show Hootenanny. The group followed with their final top forty song, Beans In My Ears, later in 1964. "

AMF Pro 300
This is one of the last photographs I shot in Portland, Oregon before I moved - so we're talking gobs and gobs of sentimental value. At any rate this is a picture of lanes at the AMF Pro 300 - 3031 SE Powell Portland, Oregon. As an added bonus the bar inside is called " The Last Frame"...how cool is that?

By the Balls
Via Amazon: Packaged like a pulp detective novel from the '30s, this pocket-sized mystery is packed with the kind of dialogue that makes gumshoe fiction so ripe for parody: "One false step and it's curtains for the floozy!" "There's nothing like a mourning widow ... and Suzi Biggs was nothing like a mourning widow." "Consider this an advance on a beating to come." Every cup of coffee, sleazy witness, and see-through negligee is critiqued in hard-bitten style by detective Benjamin Drake in this doubly amusing book, which works as both straight whodunit fiction and a winking satire of all things Hammettesque. Not to be missed by fans of the genre, fans of genre, or any genre of fans.

(Formerly) Grand Central Bowl
I only went to Grand Central Bowl a few times while it was open - I was partial to Hollywood Bowl and, later, AMF 300 on Powell. Still GCB was something of a Portland institution before closing suddenly a few years back. After several years of vacancy (during which these pictures were shot), the building was sold off to developers and is scheduled to reopen as the Grand Central Market sometime this year. According to their brochure the building will continue to host 12 lanes of bowling so at least they're thinking about the building's history. No word as to the fate of the above murals that used to grace the outside of the building - hopefully they will be relocated to the building's interior. The Celebrity Bowling Christmas Album
Labels: Bowling
Celebrity Bowling
Carroll O'Connor (?), Sammy Davis Jr. and two other cats I don't recognize.
Birthed from The Celebrity Bowling Classic (1969), Celebrity Bowling hit the airwaves in 1971 and remained on-air until 1978. Each week four celebrities paired off in a KTTV (Now a Fox affiliate.) studio in Los Angeles equipped two bowling lanes. The two teams played on behalf of audience members who received prizes based upon the celebrities scores. It is said that well over 400 celebrities participated during the show's run - Wikipedia has a partial list.
Celebrity Bowling enjoyed a brief reprise in 1987 when 26 new episodes were produced. For more information related to the scoring and prize structure of Celebrity Bowling, check out TV.com's post on the program.
Celebrity Bowling also released a Christmas album (See next post.) at some point during its run. If anyone has any information relating to the album (track list, etc.), or has a copy for sale, let me know.
